Preview.
Cleveland cavaliers.
By George Wang.
99-00 Record : 32 - 50
Best Player : Lamond Murray averaged 15.9 ppg and 5.7 rpg in his first year as a Cav. Andre Miller in his first year as a pro, showed heaps of upside and savvy averaging 11.1 ppg and 5.8 apg.
Worst Player : Chris Gatling, can someone tell this ugly excuse for a head that he has no talent at all. So stop the complaints about not getting enough playing time or shots please.
Rising Star : Andre Miller and Chris Mihm, College teamamtes are reunited to form a deadly tandem for seasons to come.
Key Acquisitions : Chris Mihm ( from Chicago )
Key Losses : Shawn Kemp and his 287 illegitimate children who made up for more that half of the home crowd each game last season.
Rumors : Not much now Kemp has been traded.

Best move this off season :
Letting Danny Ferry go to the Spurs via free agency.
Worst move this off season :
Getting Gatling and Weatherspoon for Kemp. I know Kemp is fat and unmotivated, better than fat, unmotivated and talentless.
Tell me why?
Trade kemp for those two chumps. Come on guys, what made you think that Gatling and Weatherspoon bring anything apart from more losses?

C ChrisMihm. A real upgrade in this position from last season where Andrew DeClerq and Kemp filled the void. Mihm is the prototypical center and will be able to anchor the middle of the lane in future years, great move to get him.
PF ChrisGatling. Gatling gets the starting spot by default. The only other players the Cavs have at this position are J.R Reid who is old and lazy, and Ray Traylor who is young, but fat and lazy.
SF LamondMurray. He was excellent in his first season here, look for him to place more of an emphasis on scoring now Kemp has gone. Murray will be counted on to lift his game and increase his offensive output on a nightly basis. He will become the first option on offense too which will makes things easier.
SG WesleyPerson. Coming off a bitterly dissapointing season. But the front office must have a lot of faith in Langdon and he since Bobby Sura was traded. Person was terrible last season where he shot poorly and contributed little on a nightly basis. Furthermore, he was a liability on defense too. This position definitely needs some upgrading.
PG. AndreMiller. one year removed a rookie, but Miller plays like he is a seasoned professional. He has all the court awareness, smarts and savy of a person with atleast 5 years big league experience. Look for him to cement the starting point position this year and continue his improvement.
6thMan. MattHarpring. Harpring is coming off a season ending injury last year, before which he was looking like a solid player, it will be interesting to see how he recovers from this. Knight is too small and fragile to start every game of the season. Therefore coming off the bench to spell Miller and person could be the welcome relief that he is looking for.
WhatTheyHave. Limited talent based on some core players such as Mihm, miller and Murray. They have youth on their side and no depth at all positions. They do have cap room now that Kemp's gigantic salary is off their books.
WhatTheyNeed. More talent to surround the young studs they already have, a scoring power forward will be nice, so would a consistent shooting guard. Furthermore, more depth at the middle sized positions is needed. The Cavaliers are also in need of decent home town support. many home games from last year were less that half full, the crowd resembling ones more suited for training matches than real regular season games. The Cavs also need to bring more excitement into Cleveland. I'm not sure whether getting rid of Sura and Kemp will help acieve the cause.
2001Projection. The Cavs are the only team in their division apart from the Hornets that have not improved their playing staff in the offseason. Therefor expect them to struggle mightily next season. I would predict that they are going to be the early favorites for the lottery next year. This season is definitely one of rebuilding and getting the salary cap right in hopes of snaring big name free agents next year. But the problem remains, does anyone want to play for the Cavaliers? With young talent like Mihm and Miller there may be some takers. More Teams.
